I love a good post apocalyptic zombie flick me, and for the first half of this movie this exactly what it is. A great mix of excellent camera work, interesting and tense London set pieces and even a bit of humour thrown in for good measure. But then we reach Manchester and it all goes down hill. It's as though the film was shot in a linear fashion and they ran out money halfway through. From wondering what's coming next you suddenly find yourself realising that you're going to be stuck in this final location. Everything becomes very Dr Who'ish and I mean that in a bad way. Hammy acting, crappy effects cliched characters and you begin to wonder where the film you had started watching disappeared to. Having said that it's worth a watch and if you prepare for disappointment towards the end then you may be pleasantly surprised...- Was this review helpful to you?

A film of two halves, first is much better

Danny Boyle’s take on the Zombie genre which is very much a film of two halves. The first half is superbly done with the desolate shots of London as Jim comes to terms with what’s happened and then meeting others to escape “oop North” to a safe house. When they get to the “safe house”, the second half, is when it starts to lose steam and even though it may be a social commentary on mankind it doesn’t flow as well as the first half and seems less believable. As with most Danny Boyle films the soundtrack is very good using a wide range of music from Brian Eno to Grandaddy.- Was this review helpful to you?

A must-watch, no matter what your opinion of zombies.
By a customer , 04 Jan 2013The opening research lab sequence is quite shoddy, but otherwise this is a fantastic film, constructed in just the right way to mount enormous tension throughout. There's never a moment when the atmosphere isn't eerie. And while I had expected, overall, a cheesy rendition of the outdated zombie genre, I was pleasantly surprised at how horrified I was. 10/10 Fantastic British movie...
By ZenZii (144 reviews) from Preston , 28 Dec 2012After breaking into a primate research facility and freeing infected chimps all hell breaks loose. 28 days later Jim awakes from a coma to finds bodies piled up everywhere he gets to safety with two other survivors. they have to keep moving but then find a group of soldiers who are there to help, but are they??? Good but not great!
By TimmyH (251 reviews) from Burnham-on-Crouch , 22 Oct 2012What makes this film pretty good is the atmosphere and tension built up in a post zombie hit London, no life just ruin with the zombies hiding in the dark. Great cinematography of London and one or two jump out of your seat moments. Also a positive factor to the film is the acting which fully makes you feel this event has actually happened. The script is ok as the survivors look for safety with other humans and hence head north to where they think soldiers are stationed only to be handed with further problems. I feel the film lost it's way towards the end and got a bit messy and the characters changed dramatically to suit the script but other than that it's certainly a watch for Halloween that is nearly upon us.- Was this review helpful to you?
