Most sequels fail by scrupulously remaking a story that we've already seen. This fierce, frenzied follow-up to Danny Boyle's propulsive zombie movie works harder than that, abandoning the original characters (whatever was left of them) and acknowledging the real draw was a vision of Britain overrun with raging psychopaths (something we can all relate to). I'd be surprised if it doesn't overtake the first film at the box office. A tense, exciting prologue reminds us just how nasty this rage... Read more
There was no change in the US box office chart this week as Spider-Man 3 stayed at the top once again, taking a total of $58.2 million (£29.43 million). This argument can get more than a little geeky and pedantic, but it boils down to the... Read more
Animated comedy Shrek the Third has knocked Spider-Man 3 from his web this week and debuted at number one in the US box office chart. With a weekend total of $121.6 million (£61.7 million) in takings, the Shrek sequel pushed the superhero action movie into second place and zombie horror film 28 Weeks Later into third. Featuring the vocal talents of Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers, it was widely believed that Shrek the Third would be a serious contender for Spider-Man 3, which has Read more
Fantasy story Bridge to Terabithia is sitting at number two in the UK box office chart this week after Spider-Man 3 earned ten times as much in ticket sales. ACNielsen's top ten puts the spider-bitten hero at the top, taking a total of £11,827,013 in its opening weekend, while Bridge to Terabithia - the only other new entry - took £1,045,444. The longest-runner on the chart is Mr Bean's Holiday, which spent its sixth week in the chart, being placed behind Next, Wild Hogs and Fracture... Read more
