2 gems, one not so good
By Richard Wagner from London , 03 Dec 2006[Highly rated reviewer]
Bucket of Blood and The House on Haunted Hill are 2 great classics. I was disappointed in The Ghoul, however. With all due respect to the great Boris Karloff, this was not one of his great movies, and he didn't really get to do much acting here.
However, Bucket of Blood is a riot. It is creative, somewhat derivative of the Wax Museum, but a new approach for sure. After all, this time, the artist was not an artist at all, but just got desperate (I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it).
This was my first time seeing The House on Haunted Hill, and Vincent Price was great as always. This movie had several plot twists, and was scary for its time. Definitely a must for classic horror fans.
As a unit, I give this 4 out of 5 stars. The first two get 5, and The Ghoul gets 2, for it was rather dull and unoriginal, but had a few good moments. Seeing as that this is 3 movies in one, I definitely recommend it, and who knows, some might like The Ghoul.- Was this review helpful to you?

(7)the old ones are the gold ones
By cheesekake (1282 reviews) from uk , 27 Aug 2012in short they are original, brilliantly done (specially when you think of the effects at their disposal of the time), and just really cheesy but great.
all full on blood and gore, and massive horror kinda fans may not enjoy this one, but us classic lovers wil- Was this review helpful to you?

Buckets of Horror
By Cato (705 reviews) from Lydbury North , 18 Aug 2010Of the three films, I enjoyed Buckets of Blood best, but House on Haunted Hill came a good second. The Corman film was more than just about horror, although the premise was pretty disgusting, but also about the debunking of the Beatnik/ Ginsburg/ Kerouac times, which some might say were a result of the 2nd world war. The film was also superbly shot, obviously in black and white, and it definitely goes on my list of cult films. For more obviously spine tingling, go to the Vincent Price number, this was indeed very scary. The Ghoul was a much older example of the genre, quite amateurishly acted but very well shot.- Was this review helpful to you?

Hmm
By Lelboy (269 reviews) from East London , 16 May 2009The three films had such poor trancription quality that this spoiled the enjoyment. Many films from the 30's & 40's are crisp, sharp quality - these were not. Two of the films were enjoyable enough, but the Ghoul was a waste of an hour - hoping it would get better. Still worth watching if you like this sort of film.- Was this review helpful to you?
