    brokeback mountain had tougher cowboys than this film

    1 not a western

    2 badly acted

    3 russel crowe played a soft outlaw who was sensitive and caring.

    4 any action was overcome by the strange story line

    Not quite a 21st century 'High Noon'

    It's difficult to make a believable western in the 21st century. 'Unforgiven' (1992) and 'Geronimo' (1993) probably stand out as two of the best in recent times.

    '3:10 to Yuma' tries hard to be authentic but it can never avoid the usual clichés - the plot itself being one.

    Russell Crowe leads a gang of ruthless and heartless robbers who to their irritation cross paths with crackshot cattle farmer Christian Bale and his son.

    The lead actors and the supporting cast all put on enjoyable performances as the tension ratchets up to a showdown climax awaiting the 3:10 to Yuma upon which Crowe will be taken to prison.

    The storyline gets a bit confusing as to why Crowe needs to hang around and gets crazier still as the action heats up with guns blazing everywhere.

    If you like some blood and gore and spitting on a night in - and I don't mean 'Match of the Day' - you need look no further than this movie.
