Most helpful review

This film is not suited for those who like lots of action-my mother gave up watching it after 10 minutes!
The film is the story of a middle-aged Anglo-Indian teacher who is befriended by a young Indian couple who expoilt her for their own needs. The acting is generally good; especially Jennifer Kendal in the main role. I also liked the way the film commented on class/cultural/age differences, particularly the Xmas scene contrasting the lives of rich and poor, movingly accompanied by the playing of 'Silent Night'- Was this review helpful to you?

(2)A beautiful movie
By a customer from London , 05 May 2007A beautiful movie from Aparna Sen. Set in Calcutta, it is a poignant tale of an old Anglo-Indian school teacher.- Was this review helpful to you?
