  • Yeah,its like Heat.. over-rated!

    Just like Michael Mann's (1995) popular De Niro and Pacino showdown 'Heat' .Not only in plot structure but also action-thriller seen-it-all-before cliches galore, lack of charm and subtlety, dearth of female characters,testosterone-pumped mono-dimensionality.For Pacino read Auteuil,(goodies) for De Niro read Depardieu(baddies)-these are four of the greatest actors in World Cinema of the last thirty years who bring ,light and shade, complexity ,brio and sheer panache to their many brilliant roles-yet here they're phoning in one-note performances.Maybe its not their fault ,for it's in the writing where character comes a poor second to action.I do not deny that the two films are well directed, inasmuch as the action cracks on at a rattling good pace and there are many satisfyingly violent bang-bangs for your buck.If that's all you want in a film,well....that's all you want in a film. Not my tasse de the, merci beaucoup.

  • Who is bad?

    Rated - 4.0 stars
    By a customer , 29 Aug 2012
    This is the disturbing story of 2 police officers in competition with one another for promotion, whose actions may change the course of their lives forever.

    They take terrible risks which result in dire consequences aftecting not only their lives but those of their families and colleagues.

    The intricate action escalates into life and death situations which makes an interesting film. The complex, emotional and sometimes disturbing storyline makes you ask 'Who really are the bad guys?' There is a very thin line here between the cops and the villains.

    A gripping film.

  • 36 ++ minutes great action

    Great action thriller! Of course it is the usual good/bad cop scenario, but this was such a well played out story which left you wondering who would do what next and get away with it or not?! I really enjoyed it and I am a big fan of these kind of thrillers so the story needs to be convincing which I think it is.

  • Outstanding policier

    An outstanding policier. The fast-moving, complex, compelling plot creates a strong sense of suspense and intense involvement with the characters and the moral issues they face in a situation fraught with clashing loyalties where irrevocable decisions have to be taken in an instant. Few characters keep their integrity and every false move brings its payback in unexpected ways.

  • A huge slab of jambon

    Rated - 1.0 star
    By Litzi (1 review) , 14 Nov 2011
    A complete portion of honky fromage with a huge slab of slightly-off jambon on the side. Most disappointing; even usually fantastique heavyweights Depardieu (sporting an Inspector Clouseau 'tache) and Auteuil (looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights of a Renault 12), struggle to make anything resembling a decent film out of this awful hash. Depardieu in particular looks as if he's finding his day job extremely tedious. At least it'll pay the gas bill.

    All the characters are one dimensional and the film rattles along at a frenetic pace throughout, with presumably pithy Parisian dialogue delivered so quickly that I struggled to read the subtitles fast enough.

    From a visual point of view the film is shot mostly in darkened discoteques and night clubs so you never get a good look at the baddies, all in black leather jackets. Oh, or wait a minute, are they the undercover flics?

    I'm struggling to think of one thing I liked about it apart from Gerard's moustache and the bit when he (playing meany cop Denis Klein) gets slightly damp during a 'toddler tantrum' scene.
