This is a very theatrical ensemble piece squashing the acting abilities of Ray Winstone, John Hurt, Wilkinson, Dillane and Ian McShane (once again showing that his ability in Deadwood was not a one time wonder) into a wreck of an East End house to carry out revenge in the old style.
The result is a claustrophobic movie where all the action takes place in the violent use of language and metaphor; using the restricted language of old style villains to explore the explosive ricochets of anger, love, betrayal and revenge as they tear through the heart of Colin Diamond (Winstone) and the relationships of his fellow gang members.
This is a serious bit of acting which requires a little thought and attention from the viewer.
