Bit of a let down
8 Mile review

Set in the bleak outskirts of Detroit, namely the wrong side of 8 mile, the local nickname for the city limit, border or boundary. The character of Jimmy 'B-Rabbit' Smith Jnr is a white rapper wannabe who is trying to break free from his dead end job. The only problem is that he keeps choking every time he takes to the stage as part of the local 'rap battles.'
Since being released in 2002 I have frequently heard positive results about both the film and the screen debut of the rapper Eminem. However, I have to admit to feeling let down after watching 8mile. Don't get me wrong, I still feel the Oscar was well deserved for the title track: Eminem's 'Lose Yourself.' In addition to which, Eminem's debut performance is certainly one of the better aspects to the film. It's just a shame that everything else connected to the film doesn't live up to the same standards.
