Surely this isn't Burton?
By Kinkyfish (112 reviews) from York, England , 11 Oct 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
I was lead to believe this was a Burton directed piece but it cannot possibly be as it does not feature Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham-Carter or the music of Danny Elfman. And although it looks a little gloomy (not a bad thing) it doesn't appear to be stuck in Burton's kooky one-trick-world.
I used to be a fan of Burton but he really does need to try something new and get over his nepotism issues.
So as for this film looks great, can't wait!- Was this review helpful to you?

(18)9: Unique and Beautiful Animation
By Garnor (38 reviews) , 13 Feb 2013What an absolute joy this film turned out to be. I had no previous knowledge of what the film was about prior to viewing it. But the poster art intrigued me, and my love of animation was duly rewarded with one of the most beautiful and expressive animated films I have seen in a long time. I was totally captivated by the interesting characters and the story's unique visuals themes and style. It certainly went into some dark and scary areas and makes you think about its themes, which is no bad thing. Visually the animation looks wonderful and sets its world apart from anything seen before. This has defiantly gone up there on my list of favourite films and I would certainly recommend it.- Was this review helpful to you?

Great story and animation but a touch too dark
By a customer , 10 Feb 2013My 11 year-old enjoyed this but found it scary and too sad at times. The images are fantastic and it keeps you interested but it won't give you a happy feeling nor make you laugh.- Was this review helpful to you?

Exciting, scary post-apocalyptic surprise!
By a customer , 25 Nov 2012This move was quite a surprise, a very positive one! I had no clue what it was going to be about, and it turned out to be one of the best animated movies of recent years. It's quite dark and scary, so more a grown-up take than for kids! In fact, if I was a kid it would give me serious nightmares!
The animation is good, there's a action sequences galore, and all in a dark, dark setting that evokes nazis and the post-Terminator world, with a mix a Space Oddysey (you'll see what I mean). The rag-doll characters are quite innovative too. The gloominess is reinforced by the music score... Definitely a good watch!- Was this review helpful to you?
