Arguably the most erotic film ever made (for general release), with some of the most memorable scenes, and the film that launched Kim Basinger as a sex symbol.
Rourke and Basinger are wonderful together. Rourke plays the dominant and mysterious male perfectly. Basinger is unforgettable as his female subject: The beautiful face and wonderful body that effortlessly oooooze sex appeal, but her character either isn't aware of this or just doesn't let on. She comes across as innocent, easily manipulated, and willing to do whatever Rourke wants to keep him. However, like any relationship based purely on physical intimacy and excitement , it doesn't last and the fun runs it's course.
Like Emmanuelle 12 years earlier that launched a scurge of B-movie sexploitation , Nine And A Half Weeks was responsible for an onslaught of soft porn and eroticism hitting the video shelves that paled in comparison. Basic Instinct, 6 years later, was probably the next iconic movie of the genre.
