superb.................................By williamsgwynfa (627 reviews) from gwaenysgor , 06 Oct 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]this dvd is superb. The film stars Bill Murray (from Groundhog Day and Ghostbusters) as Mayor Cole and Tim Robbins (from Cradle Will Rock and Dead Man Walking) as Loris Harrow, and is produced by the legendary actor Tom Hanks (from Forrest Gump, The Terminal and Philadelphia).
The story is about two children called Lina Mayfleet (played by Saoirse Ronan) and Doon Harrow (played by Harry Treadaway), who live in the City of Ember, an underground city built to house a human community for 200 years.
Having reached the end of its 200-year mission, Ember's power source begins to become problematic and the lamps start to flicker, because the generator that powers the city has broken and cannot be repaired.
Together, the children search for clues that will unlock ancient mysteries about the city and save the people of Ember before it's too late.
Will they succeed ?... watch the film to find out !!

Enjoyable Family EntertainmentBy MrGiles2 (81 reviews) from Middlesbrough , 19 Nov 2013I quite enjoyed this sci-fi drama about an underground city. The story might not be original since it has been covered in other ways. I recall one story years ago when families discovered that for centuries their ancestors and descendants had been travelling on a giant spaceship throughout the galaxy. This particular version shows how generations of families had adapted unknowingly to living underground, until by chance two young people discover the real truth about the world above them as internal power begins to fail. Good effects, a great cast, great sets, and some entertaining moments which the children can enjoy. Looks and sounds great on Blu-ray too, especially if you have a home cinema set up.
A rare treat - a fun, smart kids filmBy Cls14 (34 reviews) , 30 Jul 2013Unless you take your film watching VERY seriously I really don't see how you can dislike this one. It's got Bill Murray in it, it's got Saoirse Ronan in it, it's fast paced, it is (reasonably) funny in parts. Simple but (surprisingly exciting) storyline told and acted well.
Original, interesting and exciting.By Adsy (7 reviews) from Reading, UK , 21 Jul 2013Fantastically done, sets which fit with the theme and situation seamlessly, well acted roles and lots of original thought. Great movie for individual or family viewing.
Very good family filmBy a customer , 15 Jul 2013Went into this film with no expectations and both adults and child really enjoyed it. It keeps you engaged throughout though not too complex a script for the little ones to get puzzled with. Think a lot might have been lost from the book which might have brought average rating down, but if you haven't read it, watch this and you wont be disappointed.
Brilliant filmBy a customer , 09 May 2013We really enjoyed this easy to watch sci-fi film. It was so good we watched it twice! A great feel good film to relax with and the special effect sound on this film was fantastic too on the 5:1 surround system. I thought the style was similar to 'The Polar Express' and 'Hugo' so if you liked those films then you ought to try this film too.
