Do Not Miss Tom Clancy's commentaryBy a customer from London, UK , 15 Dec 2003
[Highly rated reviewer]This is a so-so spy thriller with Ben Affleck playing Jack Ryan, the character previously played by Harrison Ford. It is not really clear what the story is going to be for the first hour of the film then an event occurs out of left field and the pace really picks up. Morgan Freeman is very good.
If you have time, I really recommend listening to some or all of the hilarious commentary by Tom Clancy and the director, Phil Robinson. Tom opens his speech by complaining that the film makers ignored his book and then proceeds to point out every inaccuracy in the film, not just in respect of his book, but also in terms of what would really happen in the CIA or White House if these events occurred. The director is very good-natured and occasionally challenges cantankerous Clancy's assertions, but to no avail. A real bonus - if you do not always listen to commentaries, try this one, you might be surprised.

BoooM in the USABy Love-LoveFilm (2 reviews) , 31 Aug 2013Average at best ! A very familiar 'USA is Best' storyline formula.. Definately a watchable film, but not really any unexpected twists. Didn't know Ciaran Hinds spoke Russian. . . !
The book is better then the filmBy Mucs (8 reviews) from Llanelli , 09 Aug 2013After watching this film you are left thinking why Ben Affleck is playing the main character Jack Ryan when there were many more better actors to play this role. Morgan freeman is his usual great self. The film is slow and steady which makes it watchable once, but wont be a film you be watching over and over again. If your an action fan this one is a miss.
THE CODE WORD IS SPINNAKER !By Burnhamite (407 reviews) from BURNHAM , 30 Jun 2013Without doubt one of Tom Clancy's best novels, full of suspense, intrigue and counter intrigue and turned into an exciting movie with a host of star names inluding Ben Affleck making an impressive debut as Jack Ryan. Excellent viewing without every other word being an expletive
good storyBy smokeychops (670 reviews) from newcastle under lyme , 21 Jun 2013It is an ok thriller with a good story that is well written. Not alot of action in the film so don't rent if that's what you like.
Slow paced, but ultimately goodBy a customer from Farnborough , 23 Feb 2012Great cast and great acting as you would expect from such a famous cast list.
The script, coming from a Clancy book, was top notch.
Despite all that though and the fact that the script had plenty of intrigue, it unfortunately lead to a somewhat slow paced film that sometimes failed to keep your full attention.
Things certainly started to pick up after the first hour, turning it into a good film after all.
Worth a watch.
