[Highly rated reviewer]Well performed and beautifully shot, this film sadly had nothing new to say. Following the long and prolific tradition of French 'affair' movies this lapsed into cliche territory and lacked the originality of say 'He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not'. The inclusion of the ending at the start was an artistic error as any suspense was killed and spoilt the whole experience which then became a dull retrospective glance at a supposed 'love affair'. The wellworn cliches of bored housewife, supposedly hunky builder and inattentive husband played out in a workmanlike manner & the screenplay never explored the depth which would have made it more interesting. Kristin Scott Thomas - one of the finest actresses both here and across the channel was disappointing. One would have expected someone of her calibre to have chosen a more innovative script to work with. Her normal excellent character depictions missing as she totally missed the agonising desperation her character would have felt. She was not helped by the wooden performance of her costar and only the husband came across as likeble and sympathetic. The music however was very atmospheric and reminiscent of Truffaut and the cinematography excellently executed. Give better script and leading man, I'd like to see what this director produces in future.

Kristen is greatBy open (368 reviews) , 23 Oct 2013Scott Thomas gives a great performance but the film is to short and too black and white. The hubby is a baddie - she a goodie etc BUT its still a great drama with a terrific little ending
Excellent filmBy a customer , 01 Oct 2013Kristin Scott Thomas is amazing in this. I felt truly sorry for her character in the end - the jealous husband is a nasty piece of work and deserves what he gets in the end!

KST makes this film goodBy The KnightWatcher (629 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 03 Apr 2013Kristin Scott Thomas, French with sub-titles .Rich married woman in South of France is bored and falls in love with builder who is working on her house. She is engulfed by passion and cannot live without him and it all ends in tears and tragedy. KST lifts it from a 5 to a 6.
