Fantastic phantom: angel of musicBy blackpolekev (248 reviews) from blackpole , 02 Nov 2011
[Highly rated reviewer]The Phantom of the Opera was broadcast live via satellite from the Royal Albert Hall to cinemas across the world to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Andrew Lloyd Webber's stage musical. Shown in a digital presentation and in 5.1 surround sound it was the next best thing to actually being there. I must admit I had never heard of the two main performers (Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom & Sierra Boggess as Christine) before; their voices were outstanding and the entire cast was very good. Everyone surely knows the story so I won't bother detailing the plot but suffice it to say the entire production was fantastic. The songs & music were superb and it's easy to see why the show is still running after all these years.
After the end it deservedly got a standing ovation and the maestro himself, Andrew Lloyd Webber, came on stage & introduced the original cast members, Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford and others. A DVD of the performance is going to be released in November. Stage musicals don't get any better than this & it rates the full 5 stars.

Almost as good as the real thing!By CheekyMoo (10 reviews) , 08 Sep 2013If you haven't seen the real thing, this is the next best thing! You'll be singing or humming the songs for days. The best bit? I'm not going to spoil it but don't switch off at the encores for an added bonus!
Not as good as the original show at Her Majesties TheatreBy olliemyers (72 reviews) from Yarm, England , 25 Apr 2013An excellent production on a grand scale. I have seen the original production at Her Majesties Theatre. I felt that this show was an update more modern version but the main 'phantom of the opera' scene was no where near as spectacular as the original, nor was the start with the chandelier or when it falls In the original show the chandelier moves up to the roof at the start and falls at the end of Act 1. Maybe this is because I was watching it on TV and not in the audience but hasnt got some of the spectacular bits. Thought the girl playing Christine was good but the phantom was average.

Stunning film, a must seeBy a customer , 21 Mar 2013Absolutely superb, the next best thing to actually being there. It's beautifully staged and the singers are superb. I would like to see this on the stage now. I imagine it was amazing on the big screen too.
