Daniel has a Field DayBy blackpolekev (248 reviews) from blackpole , 17 Mar 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]There is no doubt that Daniel Day-Lewis is excellent as Lincoln and it's no surprise he won best actor at the Oscars. However - and I almost feel guilty about saying this - the film as a whole is rather plodding and this is compounded by stretching it out to epic length. It probably helps if you have a degree in American history and/or politics, but most of us haven't and although the basic story of Lincoln's fight to end slavery during the last days of the American Civil War is admirable I didn't find the script interesting enough to sustain its great length. In the supporting roles Sally Field as Mrs Lincoln is good but nothing special, as is Tommy Lee Jones wearing a (deliberately) ill-fitting rug. Given all the film's hype, I was expecting something a little better from Steven Spielberg.

keep your eyes on the noseBy Andsmithmustscore (1 review) , 19 Dec 2013frankly as dull as most of the other reviewers say it is. I ended up spotting how Day Lewis's nose is not quite identical all the way through. Lost interest in the vote - Saving Grace was a far better version of the genre
Educational but boringBy rsw (11 reviews) from blackheath london , 19 Dec 2013Educational but oh so boring so much so it took 5 or 6 sittings to get through the film i. e. I had to be already bored to sit through another instalment. That said, a brilliant performance by DDL who I went to school with :)
Turn the lights on!!By poindexter (25 reviews) from Romford , 18 Dec 2013This film may have been interesting to experts on the american civil war but to the layman it was a bit tedious and I just wish someone would have turned the lights on so we could have all seen what was going on. I do not know why some directors are obsessed with semi darkness. The acting was good, of course, but I tire of the idolatory of Daniel Day Lewis
very impressiveBy a customer , 18 Dec 2013we were very happy with this film it was very good we will probably watch it again as some of the historical facts may need to be confirmed in our little bonces lol
Probably good if you can keep awakeBy SCIFIMUM (6 reviews) , 16 Dec 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]Bit hard going, I tried to watch this 3 times and fell asleep each time so I gave up and sent it back. Not for me but as it won Oscars, someone must have stayed awake!
