Most helpful review
A marvelous film - suitable for just about anyoneBy IvanMc from Fleetwood , 28 Sep 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]When this popped through my mailbox I couldn't understand why on earth I asked for it. Cinderella for a middle-aged man? Must have been a great review somewhere that did it. So now it's my turn to spread the word
This is simply a great piece of movie-making. It takes the well-known fairy-tale/panto characters and makes them actually believable. The stepmother (Anjelica Huston) is totally selfish rather than catoonishly "wicked", similarly the "ugly" sisters given flawed but separate identities - Melanie Lynskey provides wonderful comic relief.
Drew Barrymore looks the part through and through but the masterstroke is replacing the magical "fairy godmother" with Leonard de Vinci! Sounds crazy but it works, Cast your prejudice aside - This is a fairy-tale for everyone.

so soBy cheesekake (1501 reviews) from uk , 06 Oct 2013this film did have some good bits, but just couldn't seem to get away with Barrymore speaking in an english accent. Unfortunately it just seemed to be a bit too cheesy at times.
Good family funBy lastengland (105 reviews) from Winchester , 01 Aug 2013loved this film.......all round entertainment for any age (got my own copy now). Drew Barrynore has grown up to be a really good actress, Dougray Scott makes a 'passable' prince, but his 'dad' & 'Leonardo Da Vinci' are just brilliant.
Moral Of The Story?...LIVE!!By laneyb (313 reviews) from Rochester, Kent , 08 Jun 2013I loved this film, yes we all know the story of Cinderella, BUT, in my opinion, this is the best film I've seen in telling that story!! Drew Barrymore was exceptional in the role of Danielle (Cinderella), and worked beautifully along side Dougray Scott as Prince Henry. All the cast were great, I had a soft spot for the youngest step sister to bless her, she was the funny character for me! and I love people who can make me laugh!!
Sweet movie!By NMc (9 reviews) , 21 Dec 2011Very sweet movie. A convincing Cinderella with a totally believable fairy god(father)mother. I have watched this several times and could watch it again any day. Watch it if you love Cinderella.
