Good old BurtBy Cato (772 reviews) from Lydbury North , 03 Jan 2007I don't know if it's true, but Burt Lancaster always comes across as a nice kind of man in his films, even in 'Birdman of Alcatraz'. This film is no different. Burt is a fine upstanding representative of 18th century America, a widower, travelling with his son (a good pouting performance from no less than Ronald MacDonald) and his dog Fido to Texas to start a new life. But he meets a woman, and then another woman, and you can guess, then the trouble starts. It's a great film if you're coming down with a cold and feel like an evening wallowing in front of the fire. A feel-good film.
