James Garner comedy western sequelBy Philip from camelford , 15 Nov 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]second of the james garner comedy westerns but not the best. If you liked 'support your local gunfighter' then you will enjoy this movie. Two mining outfits battle to reach the mother load under the centre of town. Garner is mistaken to be the famous gunfighter 'Swifty Morgan' and is hired by oneof the mining companys to protect their interests.

Dated but parts are enjoyableBy peebee (26 reviews) from TEDDINGTON , 05 Jan 2013Its just too dated now really. Parts of it are amusing but I think we are really watching it because we like James Garner and his very poised style. So a good nostalgia film of the type we used to lap up.
Support Your Good Ol' FilmsBy Cato (774 reviews) from Lydbury North , 25 Apr 2012Good old fashioned humour of the trigger finger smashing type makes this quaint film very dated but quite amusing in places.
Just like a normal Cowboy film (on Acid)By MagicLemur (46 reviews) from Banbury , 27 Dec 2011It's funny with Cowboy films - either they work and are classics or they're lame. And any twist on the genre (e.g. 'Cowboys and Aliens'), let alone an attempt at humour, is often punished at the box office.
Which is why this film is such a revelation - it's deeply quirky and unusual, yet somehow works both as a Western and a comedy. The colours come straight out of the sixties, yet somehow it retains the grittiness of a cowboy film and the dark humour of the frontier.
The plot is fairly simple, as it follows a dandy con-man played by James Garner, who succeeds in tricking two rival mine-owners into giving him £5000 a piece, which he proceeds to blow on '23 red' on Roulette.
It may not sound much, but as well as the plot the charactors have that magnetism of all great Westerns, and the film has all the ethos of the very best Spaghetti Westerns.
So, if you haven't come across the 'Support your local...' series, then this one comes thoroughly recommended. Like the best of the Wild West genre, this film defies cliche and presents a fully fleshed-out vision of the amazing places that Cowboys can go, given a little creativity...
All Round SupportBy Donensian (101 reviews) from Doncaster , 15 Oct 2010A follow up to 'Support Your Local Sheriff' A con man, James Garner, jumps a train in a small mining town and is mistaken for a notorious gun fighter. The film is peopled by comedy characters portrayed by such luminaries as Harry Morgan, Henry Jones, Jack Elam, Joan Blondell, Marie Windsor and John Dehner. Love interest is provided by Suzanne Pleshette. Not a sequel but a number of the same actors appear. I enjoyed it!
So-soBy Peabody (58 reviews) from by Lairg, , 27 Jul 2008It's an OK film to wile away a wet Sunday afternoon, but if you want real laughs, then rent Support your Local Sheriff instead
