[Highly rated reviewer]I thought this film was extremely well written as it was exciting to see how the 4 men would escape from the prison and was suspensing to see if the wardens would catch them!
It was interesting to see how the men actually made their way out of the jail, and the different types of methods and tools they used to escape. I thought the ending happened very quickly and unknowingly but then again, no one knows if they survived or not!

Excellent escape dramaBy TechnoHippy (108 reviews) , 24 Aug 2013I'd forgotten how good this film is. Clint Eastwood does an excellent job in the lead role of the only successful escape from Alcatraz (although officially they were listed as dead). I really like the fact that he almost underplay's the role, in fact the whole film has an understated feel that gives a more authentic feel. Of course it's not all Clint, the rest of the cast perform well. The story itself is interesting and there's some excellent moments of tension throughout. All in all a great film to watch.
Average action drama based on real life eventsBy Bassman71 (700 reviews) from Didsbury, England , 24 Jun 2013Man gets moved to Alcatraz after escaping from other prisons, makes friends with inmates, plans to escape the inescapable. Average action drama based on real life events with Clint Eastwood on autopilot for most of it and despite one scene (hatchet) is nothing out of the ordinary. Very little backstory is given about Eastwoods character so its hard to feel anything for him and whether he escapes or not and the prison itself seems quite laid back considering it supposed to be a high risk prison.
Historically acurate movieBy a customer , 22 Jun 2012

Really enjoyed it and really gave us a real flavour for what life on Alcatraz must have been like. The story about their escape from 'the Rock' was very historically accurate too!
BEING AN EX CON....... I LOVED THIS !!!By SMOKEY--JOE (9 reviews) , 05 Mar 2012Clint Eastwood may be getting old now and so is this film but....... 10 out of 10.
i rate this 100% and would definately reccomend to a friend.
One time watchableBy FAZ16 (9 reviews) , 03 May 2011I kind of liked this film, cuz of Clint Eastwood, but nothing great in it, Everything seems to be happening. Thou its a true event but they make it in fast forward style..
Over all its a one time watch...
