Great German gentle comedy with a gay theme and twistBy Kevin Fletcher from Birmingham, UK , 01 Nov 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]OK, so the twist was not so unexpected, but I found the characters believable. The straight guy dumped by his girlfriend ends up in a Gay bar and wakes up in bed with a guy. Did they or didn't they? The question didn't play a major part. The homophobia at work is treated maybe just a little too lightly, but this is reversed towards the end of the film.
The guys are cute and there are a few naked shots, but they aren't gratuitous.
I liked it, and really didn't expect german humour to translate so well. The title, by the way, could have been translated from German as 'Real Men' rather than 'Regular Guys', both would have worked for me. Translation for the subtitles: As always, this is such an ambiguous area, but I think they did rather well.

A more than regular good film, with a gay twist.By JonathanWelfordcom (35 reviews) from Manchester , 10 May 2012I really liked this film. A light German comedy with a gay twist.
Our main character get dumped by his fiance because he spends too much time and money on upgrading his car and spending time at his job as a police officer. He is told to move out instantly and in doing so gets drunk and looses all his possessions in a series of amusing ways. The following morning he wakes up, naked in bed and cuddled up to an equal lover of cars, a male gay garage mechanic!
There is a parallel straight romantic story line that runs through the film. Some fun and light hearted moments and a discovery that there isn't just black and white with life, there is some blurring at times.
It is in German with English subtitles and unfortunately some of the comedic lines aren't translated as well as they are said in German, but it's well worth a watch.

Not something you would rush home to watchBy ash53 (53 reviews) from newbury , 20 Jul 2011Who didn't read the small print and ended up with subtitles? That said the initial dismay gave way to intrigue as the story about who is straight and who is gay unfolded and who might be gay but isn't was revealed. Bit of a daft plot but clever enough to keep it frothing along. Did make you wonder though - about assumptions people make when they mis-interpret a reference point. The nice thing was that it was not about gays triumphing over the hetties of this world and the film avoided the blinding flash that the straight guy was just a gay guy all along but didnt know it.
What it did show was that sexuality was a state of mind not just a physical reaction but in a light handed way that didnt make the message kill the movie. Worth watching? Yes and no - not something you'd rush home to watch.
Very Enjoyable FilmBy OscarFreak (483 reviews) from London , 12 Aug 2010An interesting concept well handled by the entire crew to get over the complex issue of relationships and how they can evolve or not as the case may be. The script was well written and did not over sentmentalise the characters and their foibles and a lot of credit must be given to the actors who gave a first rate team performance. Very enjoyable, humourous and not to be missed.
