Cher is terrific in this film!By a customer from London , 23 Feb 2004
[Highly rated reviewer]This is a good legal thriller... Cher is wonderful as a put-upon public defender trying to represent homeless mute ex-Vietname vet, Liam Neeson, who is accused of murdering a clerk to a senior judge. John Mahoney (the dad from Frasier) is excellent as the judge who will not cut Cher any slack in the courtroom. The only slightly dud note is Dennis Quaid, who is good in his role as the enquiring juror, yet I found his romance with Cher to be a tad unbelievable. But no matter - this is a good story and a well-made film with great performances all round.

Good watchable thrillerBy The KnightWatcher (629 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 27 Apr 2013Political thriller starring a competent Cher as a defence lawyer. Also features a very young Liam Neeson as the suspect murderer. The film improves as it progresses, and packs a few surprises and ends with an unexpected twist. Credibility is stretched but the end result is a reasonably good watchable thriller typical of the 1980s.
Suspect by name, suspect by nature.....By phyllisglass (7 reviews) from Essex , 24 Aug 2010Did this pass as an acceptable courtroom drama in the 80's? Surely not? The cinematography is dated, the storyline sooooooooooo predictable, and the acting is as believable as Cher being a lawyer. As a Cher fan, I was seriously dissapointred with this.
Great Chemistry Between Cher & Neeson!!!By a customer from Wolverhampton , 27 Nov 2009
THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS Show review anywayHideAlthough this is quite an old movie now, I found myself really engrossed in this courtroom thriller.
'Cher' (Mask) is fantastic as a dedicated public defender 'Kathleen Riley' who is assigned to the case of a homeless deaf-mute veteran 'Carl Wayne Anderson' played by the very talented 'Liam Neeson' (Rob Roy).
Anderson is being accused of robbing & brutally murdering a young secretary who worked in the Justice Department, but is he really responsible?
'Dennis Quaid' (Innerspace) is suave & cocky juror 'Eddie Sanger' who suspects foul play in the case and sets out to prove Anderson's innocence, passing all new information into Kathleen's hands.
With a possible new love interest, the threat of being disbarred if ever she was caught out and the constant hostility from residing 'Judge Matthew Helms' played by 'John Mahoney' (Say Anything), Kathleen is treading on very dangerous ground.
Overall, an enjoyable thriller to really get your teeth into, with a good twist plot at the end. :)
