Atrocious quality!By manowar from Wirral , 30 Jun 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]Newly released on dvd, this is a favourite film of mine and I was looking forward to watching it. (The first copy didn't arrive) I have this on vhs tape but I thought the dvd picture quality would be an improvement....not a chance! I'm glad I didn't buy it before watching it. Such a disappointment. My vhs SP quality tape is actually better than this monstrosity. The colours were all over the place, the picture was out of focus & blurred for quite long periods. Whoever took the decision to release this didn't spend any time or money in trying to source a good quality copy. TEN thumbs down!

Darned good story! Read the book as well!By Eskdaleman (16 reviews) , 26 Mar 2013The original story by Kenneth Roberts is around 700 pages and the film covers only half of it. In spite of the reported poor quality of the DVD the story and acting and direction are the things that matter and apart from the false happy ending this is a good rendition of the tale.
What a pity!By Donensian (101 reviews) from Doncaster , 13 Apr 2011A fine film, well cast, good characterisation. Spoiled by appalling lack of quality. The transfer from film to DVD has been done from a very poor source. The picture is dirty, breaks up and horizontal movement is jerky. I have reverted to my VHS version for better quality.
Technicolor MurderBy a customer from Sheffield , 15 Nov 2010For a movie that was filmed in Technicolor, this film is eye straining in its SUB VHS transfer. I'll go as far as its a pirate copy. A good movie spoiled. AVOID
UnwatchableBy a customer from uk , 22 Sep 2010The quality of the disc was so bad it was unwatchable.
Great Film Rubbish TransferBy drewglos (8 reviews) from Gloucester , 25 Jul 2010Five stars for the film nothing for the transfer to dvd. Have waited along time for this to become available on dvd, guess I will have to wait a bit longer.
