what a disappointmentBy Paula Sheppard from London , 06 Sep 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]What a heap of cr*p!
This movie left me waiting for the poor guy to die just to be put out of my own misery.
It does not take a lot of brain power to imagine what someone wandering around in a stupor looks like. But Gus van Sant uses 89 painful minutes to illustrate this simple idea. And nothing else. Im all for arty movies that embrace long, quiet scenes of hedgerow (ahem) if there is something to back it up, some point. This movie has nothing.
There is almost no dialogue and what little there is mostly unintelligible. You learn nothing about the characters or the music and are left feeling cheated and bored.
Kurt Cobain deserves a better portrayal of his last days, even if they were this banal. Damn, a potted plant deserves better and would be more entertaining.

RUN AWAY!By j-niz (1 review) , 01 Aug 2013This is the worst film I have ever had the misfortune of watching. Don't be fooled by the trailer. You've been warned!
Disappointing! 2/10By Pacino247 (200 reviews) , 07 Jul 2013Review: I was expecting this movie to show the last days of Kurt Cobain and his relationship with his wife Courtney Love, who was accused of the murder, but all if shows is him and a few mates, mashed up in a house in the middle of nowhere. There is hardly any talking so there isn't much explanation about what the hell is going on. To be honest, I found the whole movie to be quite depressing and morbid. Maybe that was the message that the director wanted to get across about his last days! Anyway, for entertainment, this movie was definitely a waste of time but it does deal with a certain state of mind which is hard to come to terms with. Disappointing! Round-Up: It's weird, because the whole film was basically about Kurt Cobain's last days, but the director has used different names for the characters and he puts a message at the end saying that the characters were fictional, so what was the film actually about? I think director just used the information that he had, which wasn't that much, and he predicted his last days but that's not to say that it was true. Anyway, I would like to see what really happened but I know that it a touchy subject because there are many law suits still pending. Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $2. 5million I recommend this movie to people who are into Kurt Cobain and and who wondered who he came to take his own life. 2/10
Insert 'paint' and 'dry' here...By MechLob (1 review) , 08 Aug 2012I've put off watching this for years and wish I hadn't bothered watching it at all. Apart from 'Blake' there are no characters of interest, the pace is slow, next to nothing happens and it doesn't tell us ANYTHING new. Very surprised at the excellent reviews from Empire, Total Film et al. I suggest you watch Nirvana MTV Unplugged instead and remember Kurt as a troubled genius rather than an inaudible simpleton.
Maybe worth a look... if you're patient etc!By SiSlayRD500 (165 reviews) from Solihull , 11 Feb 2012Admittedly this IS a hard film to watch, mainly due to its very, very slow pace and bleakness.
I gave this 3 stars because it does have a couple of redeeming factors; these are the look of / way it's shot (given the subject matter) and I think the most important one being putting you (as near as can be expected) in Blake's (Cobain's) very troubled head in those 'last days'.
However, ironically that is both the films stronger and weaker factors, stonger because it does sort of put you in that mode, but weaker because of the pace / bleakness needed to achieve this.
Overall then worth a look IF you've the patience and time for this type of film; it is 'arty' and I can only imagine is filmed the way it is completely intentionally.
TRULY AWFUL!!!!!By a customer , 24 Nov 2011A truly awful film....
I have never written a review before but felt compelled to after wasting 90 minutes of my life on this.
I would strongly discourage anyone from watching this film.
It doesn't even warrant a single star
