Mad hot about Mad Hot BallroomBy Melisa Tupou from Harrow, UK , 16 Nov 2005
[Highly rated reviewer]This charming documentary is an absolute MUST SEE - for everyone, not just those who like ballroom dancing.
In NYC, school children can participate in a 10 week program and learn how to Ballroom Dance. It's a brilliant program that allows eleven year olds, some from impovised backgrounds, the opportunity to learn social skills and grace as well as to have fun!!
The 10 week program finishes with a Ballroom Dance competition and it's this competition that's at the heart of this film. We watch three schools in the lead up to, and the result of, their participation in the competition.
It's gripping stuff, with the most amusing lines coming from the children themselves. Classic 'world according to child' stuff!! It is the adults in the film that you worry about - especially as the competition draws near.
It's a true delight, I particularly loved Wilson and he's tranformation from a shy little boy who doesn't really speak the language, to a confident, happy and stylish dancer is just beautiful!!!

Awesome documentary.By a customer , 09 Jan 2013Entertaining documentary that I watched for research as part of a project. I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but all the kids had be engaged from the start to the end, wanting the kids we're following to do well. If you have seen Take the Lead, it's similar to that, except the kids are around 10 and 11. Recommend for those interested in dancing and/or documentaries.
Delightful dance fest!By a customer from Wirral , 08 Mar 2011What a charmer... to hear the children speaking about their life and experiences was almost as absorbing as the build up for the competition... and what great little movers they all are... fantastic... highly recommended
Mad Hot BallroomBy a customer from Peterborough , 24 Aug 2009This took me and my daughters by surprise - I thought it was a film but it was more of a documentary. Once we got into it, we enjoyed it and were cheering for one of the teams.
A documentary not to miss!By a customer from Cardiff , 04 Feb 2009This is a gorgeous film. The kids steal the documentary with their comments on the world, where dancing fits into it, what they think of their fellow dancers and their aspirations for the future. There are some genuinely touching moments, and some that made me laugh out loud. It's also great to see something positive happening for the young people in New York. My boyfriend loved it too and we've been recommending it to anyone who will listen - so far everyone I've forced this on has loved it. Watch out for Cyrus - who reminds me of a very young Bob Dylan.
Hot in the cityBy a customer from Manchester , 13 Jan 2009Following in the vein of 'bad kids done good' this touching doucmentary is a guaranteed heartwarmer when all faith in humanity is on the wane.
