Terrific little low-key horror movieBy chuckturner (16 reviews) from England , 26 Aug 2006
[Highly rated reviewer]Tipping its hat to Stephen King and Richard Matheson, POPULATION 436 is a terrific little low-key horror movie. Yes, it has similarities to THE WICKER MAN and Shyamalan's THE VILLAGE but unlike the latter it doesn't overplay its hand. The story is simple and strong - a census-taker arrives in the small town of Rockwell Falls in the American South, and discovers that the town's population has remained exactly 436 for the last 150 years. The reasons are gradually and skilfully revealed, so that at the one-hour mark, the film is still able to shock and surprise. It's good, old-fashioned storytelling, sometimes rather shakily directed but adroitly edited, and unusually pacey for a paranoid suspense story. Comparable to such low key pictures as NIGHT OF THE EAGLE, LET'S SCARE JESSICA TO DEATH and Herk Harvey's CARNIVAL OF SOULS.

Good idea badly doneBy a customer from London , 31 Oct 2008Thought the idea behind this sounded interesting but the reality was far from that.
Nothing really any good about this imho. Basic acting, looks average, script not interesting, no twists.
Agree with previous reviewer that would have been better as a short story (even though it's less than hour n half long!).
Predicatable but goodBy a customer from Wallasey, England , 18 Oct 2008I wasn't sure how this was going to turn out, but in fact it was quite a good watch. It's predictable, guy enters town, dodgy town dwellers hiding a secret, he finds out, they stop him leaving - much like the Wicker Man only a totally different setting. The acting's good, some suspenseful moments, interesting twist to a few sub plots. If you like a film with suspense this might be worth the watch.
Great story worked really well.By James from Brighton , 23 Aug 2008I thought this would be a horror film but was impressed as it turned out to be a susspence type thriller film. Great story worked really well. Highly recommeded for fans of weird style horror.
Not bad but?By a customer from Bargoed , 29 Jul 2008If I'm truthful it was'nt very good, there was'nt even an explanation at the end which was disappointing unless I was too bored to care
Don't botherBy rabbitzfoot (24 reviews) from Northwich , 24 Jun 2008Creepy goings on in a small village, give me a break. Couldn't they come up with a better story line than this?
