[Highly rated reviewer]I thought this film was not that bad. It was abit long and abit slow but there was good performances and gr8 songs. Its not a bad effort and not a typical bollywood film. That 'ANWAR' is quite the hotie......... lol.

very good different storyBy a customer from Surrey, England , 02 Jun 2012excellent movie but need time to understand it
Applaud the attempt but doesn't succeed.By McAbsent (2 reviews) from Nelson , 25 Jan 2011Firstly, I watched this in the hope that it was not your typical Bollywood movie and for the most part it isn't your conventional Bollywood movie.
The story is simple, A Muslim (Anwar), who now resides in a Hindu Temple (we discover why towards the end of the movie via the main story arc), is spotted praying and we then discover he is being hounded out for being a terrorist due to his bag being discovered to contain drawings of Hindu temples.
This is only the satirical backdrop which can be thought-provoking due to the media circus caused by the local politicians looking to score points by exploiting the situation, the impact on the personal life of the head of police and the reporters being dragged through this wild goose chase.
See the backdrop is solid and offers a potentially thought-provoking set of affairs only the movie touches on this very briefly. Instead the movie focuses on how Anwar got to where he is through a sort of coming of age musing with two contrasting Hindu friends and Anwars relationship with his nieghbour. Without giving anything away it plays on the eternal love affairs more akin to Bollywood film but leads to a somewhat mental breakdown of Anwar.
The acting at times is poor, directing is okay but also poor in parts, the saving grace for many is the soundtrack and it is beautiful.
I would suggest you watch Delhi 6 instead, a far superior and involving movie than this with better acting and similar movie arc. Anwar has the right idea but delivery reflects the budget as much as it pains me to say.
Not your average Bollywood singing dance affair but still does not hit the mark for the indie/alternative crowd.
GoodBy a customer from uk , 28 May 2009very slow but the story was good!!!
disappointing...By a customer from Altrincham , 07 Apr 2009This movie has attracted good reviews generally and I'm sure the reviewers are the types who don't like usual bollywood crap. I watched it as an art movie as well but I feel it failed in that aspect as well. It starts with a good premise..a contemporary topic of a peaceful muslim taken as terrorist but it doesn't take much time to see the movie falling apart..it tries to be a comedy in places, serious in others and I can understand the reason..the movie is based on a short story and in order to keep the appropriate length, the makers added a lot of unrelated and sometimes irrelevant and sometimes irritating stories in between which had no relevance to the story, too many to mention... In fact the original theme of the story seems to disappear quickly and a failed love story emerges later which is nothing of something extraordinary. There are too much distractions in the movie to keep off from the story and as an art film it falls flat on its face...and a total failure as a commercial film if that was the primary intention of the makers. There are some very nice art movies out there and see what I mean...see Mr. and Mrs. Iyer and you'll love it. See 15 Park Avenue, Pinjar, In Custody...and lots more...This movie on the whole didn't fit into any category...the music is not much of an achievement either as some have written...It is still different from run-of-the-mill bollywood crap but sadly I wouldn't include it in my list of hindi art cinema..
