[Highly rated reviewer]Horrific and terrifying violence, but this is not a slasher pic ... it's gritty realism serves as a graphic illustration of the difficulty of subduing a hostile population with US military might. Bush & Blair might have paused for thought a bit longer before committing themselves to Iraq if they had these images fresh in thier minds.
Scott keeps the tension and action moving, so that at the end you feel wrung out and drained.

Truly excellentBy The KnightWatcher (629 reviews) from Gloucestershire , 14 Oct 2013Excellent war / action movie based on true events in Somalia in 1993 directed by Ridley Scott (Blade Runner).Gritty, intense, high octane action drama. A routine military operation is seriously misjudged and under estimated and quickly descends into chaos as the marines are over run by local militia. Excellent cast and well acted. War films do not get much better or more realistic than this.
Terrific - Best War Movie In AgesBy Somethingsimple (20 reviews) , 29 Jun 2013I missed this first time around and 12 years later have discovered it. Great back to back action which throws you right of the middle of the action. Great stuff....don't miss it!
Don't miss it.By a customer , 17 Jun 2013One of my all time favourites, good movie, yes some people will find it 'unrealistic' but its a movie there aren't many out there show war in a perfect true light, appreciate this film for what it is, a good enjoyable action film. Plus it provided a few fakes for photos of bin laden.
Awesome war filmBy TechnoHippy (105 reviews) , 09 Jun 2013Black Hawk Down is one of my favourite modern war films. The action is superbly filmed and the soundtrack is simply fantastic. It does an amazing job of portraying the confusion of war and the differences between how the Americans wage war compared to some of their foes. What does stand out is that some would think that it works as propaganda for the US military, but it does highlight the weaknesses of their approach. For example how reliant they are on technology and the rules they set themselves. True these are also strengths. It's not completely accurate to the events, so it can't be described as a historical film, but as a war film it is great. The audio is great and it looks lovely on bluray. A wonderful film I love watching again and again.
I love Josh HartnettBy gianino (648 reviews) from London , 01 Apr 2013He was so sexy and good in this movie. Anyway, the cast was impressive and brilliant, Ridley Scott gave great care in every little details and it seems incredibly realistic. I usually don't like war movies but this was very good
