Well acted, but predictableBy Susan Griffith from Swansea , 05 Aug 2007
[Highly rated reviewer]Although we've probably all just about had enough of films about Vietnam or its aftermath now, this promised to be a little different, so I gave it go. Certainly the acting was good from both main characters, but I can honestly say I will probably have forgotten the film fairly soon. The 'plot', which is minimal, is fairly predictable and some of the 'characters' in the film are stereotypical 'rednecks', so nothing new delivered. It didn't squeeze a tear out of me even when it clearly should have. Disappointing.
A reminderBy a customer from Carmarthen , 28 Aug 2008In the midst of the current war in Iraq and Afghanistan this is reminder of the earlier impact on soldiers who served in Vietnam. Perhaps at times this is too sweet but perhaps that is compensation for the sadness.
Just misses outBy a customer from Bodmin , 27 Aug 2008Somewhat cliched and rather predictable but very well acted and a pleasant way to pass an evening. A little more focus on the veterans and why they felt compelled to live as they did and, indeed, how they managed to do so would have made it a better film.
AwfulBy Morebeerplease (13 reviews) from Woking , 23 Jul 2008What is danny Glover doing in this heap of garbage.
On the face of it the story looks promising, and so does the first 15 minutes or so. And then, I think the whole movie set, from the writers to the director, ran out of ideas.
The film laboured one story aspect after the other and then got everything off their collective chests in the last 15 minutes.
The characters were not developed despite Glover doing his best.
The ending could have been so much better, (as could the middle 60 minutes), as a tribute to those who took part in that conflict if nothing else.
One to avoid unless you are putting the hangman off for an hour and a hlaf or so.
