(2)That's My Kind Of Music
By a customer from Doncaster , 24 Oct 2010John Wilson has achieved a remarkable success in recreating from old recordings of a concert of MGM musicals this presentation at The Proms. He must have a superb 'ear' and equally high orchestrating skills. His hand picked orchestra combining classical musicians and swing band players are never less than outstanding. The singers, again a mixture of classical Sir Thomas Allen and Sarah Fox and musical theatre and night club performers such as Curtis Stigers, Kim Criswell, Seth MacFarlane (the creator of 'Family Guy') fill their roles almost perfectly, although I was not impressed by Curtis Stigers. If you are a fan of film musicals and in particular the MGM musicals, then this will be a treat for you. Kick off your shoes, pour yourself a glass of your favourite potion, turn the lights down low, settle back in your comfy chair and relive tunes from An American in Paris, The Band Wagon, High Society, Brigadoon, It's Always Fair Weather, Singin' in the Rain, Meet Me in St Louis, Kismet, Easter Parade, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Hit the Deck, Girl Crazy, Gigi & Deep in My Heart.- Was this review helpful to you?
