    [Highly rated reviewer]

this version of the classic Christmas tale is set in 3D by the same director called Robert Zemeckis who previously used this technique in his films The Polar Express and Beowulf.

Jim Carrey stars in a multitude of roles in this adaptation, including Ebenezer Scrooge as a young, middle-aged, and old man, and the three ghosts who haunt Scrooge.

A Christmas Carol is a Victorian morality tale of an old and bitter miser, Ebenezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey), who undergoes a profound experience of redemption over the course of one night.

Mr. Scrooge is a financier and moneylender who has devoted his life to the amassing of a fortune.

He holds anything other than money in contempt, including friendship, love and the Christmas season.

But an encounter with the ghostly figure of Jacob Marley (played by Gary Oldman) sets the stage for a mysterious and magical encounter with three phantasmic beings to help him realize the true magic of Christmas itself.

    well worth watching !!!

Simply the best 3D Blu-Ray I've seen. Animation, acting and direction are superb and visually it's fantastic. Rent or buy, you won't be disappointed.

I rented this movie to get into the Christmas spirit and helped a little. It is very well done with computer animation and Jim Carrey does well with many voices. Though this story has been done over and over.... and over it is a good version of it but even though it is a PG I would watch it first before showing it to young children as some parts of the film could be a little scary to the younger children.

I’ll tell you what the film’s about as a matter of principle but, if you don’t already know, I sincerely question your upbringing. Ebeneezer Scrooge (Jim Carrey) hates everyone and, even moreso, hates Christmas. But one Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future…

The main appeal of the movie for me was the motion capture, just because I remember the entire hype being about that. It’s not bad and, at times, it’s excellent. But it’s clear that having the entire movie animated around the motion capture was a bad idea. It’s not very realistic; whereas Gollum in LOTR is so unbelievably lifelike.

It’s the Jim Carrey show, too. He is brilliant in it, and I don’t fault the performance at all. But he’s a good actor in an averagely made movie. There’s decent support from actors like Gary Oldman and Colin Firth, but nothing to shout home about. Maybe, MAYBE, this will be fun for kids, but I doubt that too.

So you can tell that I found the movie boring. I didn’t hate it; it’s just boring. Frankly, I’d rather read the book.

I enjoyed the animation and humor in this version of the classic.

I won't bore you with the details as all are no doubt familiar with the story.

I will say that I agree with the other reviews in that some parents may not find it suitable for their children. I mean, I screamed at the door knocker scene. How lame is that?
