As a long time Polanski fan, I decided to try this. He is credited only as the screenwriter (adapted from a book). Why did he sink to this?
(OK, he left the post-production after his wife was murdered)
It is very poor, I could not watch more than about half-an-hour. No wonder it never got a theatrical release!
Oh, and the continuity is appalling. The young girl (aged five or six?), who spends a wet day at the beach with her alcoholic 'uncle' (her biological father?), has a calliper on her leg (polio?), BUT it switches from right to left leg and back again between scenes! Obviously very low budget.
The girl is the one bright spot in the film, she plays her part heart-breakingly well.
