This adaptation (by playwright David Mercer) of Ibsen's play appeared the same time as the other 1973 version. Directed by Joseph Losey, however, it's the more cinematic, with its use of location (Norway) and camerawork (a mobile witness of events). Jane Fonda as Nora speaks up a little too blatantly for early women's liberation, but David Warner and Trevor Howard sustain Ibsen's then-revolutionary arguments with a care and subtlety which carries the play's message across time.
