i love the family at war,i liked the subject and cast i caught a few episodes as 10yr old and remember it well i have now watched it as an adult and i love it,its like watching a play and the clever way they drag out each episode gives you an idea how long it must have seemed to those unfortunate enough to have lived through this time period.if you want fast moving action sex and gore its not for you its a gentle programe which say's an awful lot.so if your capable of consentration and have an interest in the subject, its for you.if not its not for you.this is from a time when we used write good drama, with a lot of limations from censors and a public that expected not to be put of there tea.

Oh dear,I struggled through Disc 1 (the first 3 episodes) hoping that things would get better - but they didn't. I simply could not form any empathy with any of the characters, who all seemed rather one-dimensional so, sadly I am giving up on the series.

Badly put together series obviously done on the cheap- like bad am-dram at the village hall. Cancelled after disc 2. Poor stuff.

Just finished watching the first series of Family at War and what a fantastic series this was - there are some 'warts' when you can see the microphone in shot but this was British TV drama at its best - surely this was one of the best TV series that ITV have ever made.

If you have seen it watch it again - if you have never seen it then you are in for a treat.

Enjoyed the first set of discs so much I bought the whole lot! Very well acted - it centres more on the people than the actual fighting - no blood and gore - but it doesn't need it. The series is about how families coped ... and it is very true to life as it was then ... a must see.
