Most helpful review
One of my all time faves
By Ken from Haywards Heath , 11 Feb 2004[Highly rated reviewer]
I was surprised that nobody had submitted a review for this movie, I guess because its fairly old now.
Jack Nicholson plays the Commander of the Marine training facility in Guantanamo Bay Cuba. The Marines are a tough crowd and they don't take kindly to those who don't make the grade.
Santiago is a kid who is not cut out to be a Marine and on the night before he is to leave Guantanamo he dies.
Two Marines go on trial for his murder. There is suspicion that Santiago has been killed as part of a code of honour.
The trial is expected to be an open and shut case, the prosecutor (Bacon) offers a simple plea bargain, the two Marines get dishonourably discharged and everyone can get on with their lives. The only trouble is the Marines maintain they did nothing wrong, they were following a code of honour.
The defence Council (Tom Cruise) thinks otherwise as he begins to suspect that the Base Commander may have been involved.
The plot develops at a good pace as Tom Cruise gathers more and more evidence. You have to be very very careful if your going to challenge a General as noteable a war hero as the base Commander.
All he has to do is to find a way to get the base Commander to give evidence.
This is one hell of a film. My wife and I have watched five or six times to the point where we know the script by heart. Look out for the line from Nicholson, 'you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall....' It will make sense when you see it.
Each time it gets better and better. So good, we had to buy it for the collection.
Treat yourself, try this movie and let me know what you think.- Was this review helpful to you?

Superb.- Was this review helpful to you?
