This spaghetti western from master chef Sergio Leone was originally called Duck, You Sucker!, a title that is perhaps more in tune with the film's jokey intentions. Rod Steiger stars as a peasant who becomes involved with fugitive IRA explosives expert James Coburn and the Mexican Revolution. There's nothing really funny about Coburn as a walking arsenal, but Leone manages more laughs than you'd expect, thanks to his actors' unexpected gift for deadpan comedy.
Overblown action spectacular, far too long to be sustained by its flashes of humour and excitement. A good instance of what happens to a small talent when success goes to its head.
A tale of comradeship, betrayal, violence, earth shattering explosions, politics, humour, quirky accents, heartache, grief, prejudice - all linked via a powerful and haunting theme tune and set amidst the backdrop of the Mexican revolution
Unlikely pairing of a wanted IRA revolutionary (James Coburn) on the run in Mexico and a crude bandito (Rod Steiger) who hopes their partnership will make him a riche bandito.
Cast in the same mould as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly but with more humour.
'When I started using dynamite I believed mannny things. ALL OF IT! Finally, I believe only in dynamite'
I quite Liked this film despite some of the negative reviews , if you are a fan of "Spaghetti Westerns" then you will know what to expect.

These humanoids took pleasure in (to our minds) an exotic, even aberrant form of pornography. It wasn't the sexual act that repelled and transfixed them. It was images of food and eating. For an hour and a half, the movie camera barely strayed from close ups of lips, teeth, and bobbing Adam's apples as a family pigged out over a simulated meal. At the film's climax,... Read more
