    [Highly rated reviewer]

i have been going to the movies now for almost 46 years and in all that time i have never walked out before a movies conclusion until last week when i went to a preview screening of this - i hesitate to call it film !

I lasted 40 minutes watching this ill conceived , badly edited, pretentious pile of crap , 40 minutes of disjointed images, contiual swearing and profanities, i am no prude but i was mightily embarassed at this opus.

Anyone who pays money to see this is crackers and dont rent it sit and watch paint drying its 1000% more entertaining.

I am sorry if i have offended the arty farty reviewers who say this is a brilliant movie but they must have been drunk or on drugs when they sat through this

A stand out performance from Channing Tatum makes this a great coming of age film. Shia and Downing Jr also put on some great perfomances to make this worth a watch. They certainly lift an average story.

A bit long winded, but if like me you have some time to waste then why not give it a try. Only really watched this because of Robert Downey Jr and Channing Tatum, the story line is there but needed more work to it.

  • It's ok, but don't bother!

Well, I managed to watch the whole thing........ and if you can stand the first half hour, it isn't too bad. The film gets two stars, but an extra for Channing, Shia and Robert being in it.

I don't understand the bad reviews for this film, it is heart warming and touching. I like the idea that a young man can gather enough courage to leave a place where everyone ends up damaged or in prison yet come back to find everyone he had left behind were still there from him.

Ok so the scenes may be a little sketchy and there is a lot of swearing and mouthing off but that was true life. People do swear and get angry and if you really disliked the film because of the amount of swearing then you need to look around at reality.

Overall an amazing film the actors are great and really portray the film well, I liked the set up of the book as a type of narration and people should really appreciate that for a film to work it has to be true, all fluffy lovey stuff doesn't happen everyday and this shows another side to family life, that is often hidden in films.

It's worth persevering past the first half hour. It is a really good film, harsh and raw but the situation well portrayed, very good acting.
