Cracking movie starring Richard Harris.Basically he finds himself taken in by a tribe of native americans and the story follows his journey from camp 'dog' to acceptance as a warrior.Makes a change to see the indigenous american people portraid in a good light. The initiation ceremony is worth watching the movie for alone.Enjoy.- Was this review helpful to you?

A Man Called Horse
By SUSIQ (9 reviews) from Newport , 08 May 2008I didn't really like this film. It was very slow and not a great deal of dialogue that you could understand.- Was this review helpful to you?

Groundbreaking film
By Garaculus from West Sussex , 13 Mar 2006This film broke away from the hollywood western story of cowboys and indians, and gave a lift to the tired old cliches. The use of language is inspired as a large amount of the dialogue is tribal, however, this does not detract from the film or make the storyline difficult to understand. It portrays the both the life and customs of the native indians and the infamous depiction of the sun ceremony is one of the most stunning scenes of the movie.
Both Richard Harris and Jean Gascon as Baptiste are superb. Not as sentimental as Dances with Wolves, but better for it.
It owes more to George Catlins book 'Life Among the Indians'.
