Beware movies based on comedy sketches as, with very few exceptions (Wayne's World being one), they are rarely very good. This tale, based on a Saturday Night Live skit about two dumber-than-dumb, sexist brothers trying to get into the coolest clubs in LA, is utterly devoid of any redeeming features. The actors (Will Ferrell, Chris Kattan) are irritating, the script is humourless, and at under an hour-and-a-half it is still 80 minutes too long. The highlight amid the gloom? A mildly amusing spoof of the “you complete me” scene from Jerry Maguire. By the time it appears, though, you will have already abandoned this as a lost cause.

    Ouch!!

This movie had me in stitches from start to finish. It's not intelligent comedy, but if that doesn't bother you, you'll love this film.

Easy going, light hearted cult classic. Easy to watch, lots of fun. The kind of film you can watch again and again. Very entertaining... Five stars.

    Not up to Par

This film is ok for a few laughs but it lacks any real depth. The whole Will Ferrell is grat but its not up to par with such films as 'Old School', Anchorman and Talledega Nights. I suggest you watch this before those to get the most out of this film as if you go back it seems disappointing. Watch it if your a fan of Ferrells or haven't seen any of Ferrell's other more main stream hits or even Saturday Night Live.

Fantastic (if you like that sort of thing)!

This film is firmly rooted in the genre sparked by Bill & Ted and Wayne’s World, but treated with a knowing and frankly quite bizarre eye.

Whilst most of the recent efforts at this kind of movie (e.g. Dude, where’s my car?) are also trademark silly and slightly surreal, Roxbury is subtler. First off, the two ‘teenage brothers’ are being played by men in their late thirties, and the film’s take on the eighties is hilarious and at the same time tellingly believable.

Much of the humour is visual, and whilst it seems to grate a little at the start, I quickly found myself getting drawn into the guys’ (utterly ludicrous) world. If you can put up with the level of silliness, then you will probably find this film very funny.

It is a credit to the pace and humour of the film that you don’t tend to notice the lack of a proper plot structure until you think about it afterward. It’s not big, it’s not deep, and it’s only a bit clever, but I love it anyway. But be warned - if you don’t, you’ll probably really hate it.

    Very funny movie

I don't know what the "Time Out" reviewer is on, but this movie is one of the funniest I have ever watched. Crack open a beer or bottle of wine and hit play... see how long it is before you spurt you drink all over.

If you like comedy movies rent this, you won't regret it.

If you want a deep and meaningful relationship with your DVDs, get something else.

An hour and a half of my life, that I will never get back!

This is not a good film. I am a big Will Ferrell fan and love many of his films, such as Anchorman, Blaze of Glory and Semi-Pro, but this film is not in the same league.

The plot is thin and the jokes are few and far between. Watching Will Ferrell doing what appears to be a poor impression of Keanu Reeves' character out of Bill & Ted, is painfull.

I hoped that this film would be some kind of hidden gem, but it was not. I would recommend that this film be ignored, unless you are the biggest Will Ferrell fan in the world and would watch anything!

    This is one watch movie.

Great for a 90's throwback like me. But once you have seen it , the gags and the dancing, there's little else to bring you back to watch it again.

Dire, only watch this if you're desperate!

What a shame! I was expecting so much more from the mighty Will Ferrell who usually has me in stiches. For me and my man, there was only one funny moment in this movie - unfortunely not delivered by Ferrell...... watch this as a last resort.
