River Phoenix, who tragically died so young, strayed from his usual thoughtful pubescent role to play a romeo teenager with a gravity-defying hairdo in this hit-and-miss comedy. Although Phoenix is as engaging as he was in Running on Empty and Stand by Me, he seems ill at ease playing such an extrovert character, who also has to narrate the action on screen. Nonetheless, the movie still has its moments, notably Phoenix's assignations with older woman Ann Magnuson. One of the quirkier roles in the actor's short career.

    VERY GOOD

I saw this film a while ago, it was pretty late at night and I seem to recall that it was on channel 5 or something, it struck a chord with me then for some reason so i felt i had to revisit it.

It's the tale of a young man who is going through a turbulent period in his adolescent life and is unsure about which path to take, we all go through such times which I guess allows us to relate. River Phoenix is always watchable, he has become almost as legendary as James Dean after his death and adds some impetus to the proceedings. Overall, highly rated!

    80's cheese-tastic

A yound River Pheonix delivers a strong performance but frankly, the story and the plot weren't great. It's aged a bit too and not in a good way. One for a rainy weekend perhaps
