A Nightmare on Elm Street manages to still be scary after 20 years, and was probably much more so at that time. The film has not worn well and looks dated, and it's not just the hair. Although it is part of the eighties horror revival it is not the best example of a classic from this time, with The Evil Dead and Friday the 13th more likely candidates. The plot, about a child murderer stalking teenagers in his dreams is effective enough, and better thought out than most teen horror flicks of the eighties. The acting is average with Ronee Blakley being out-acted by an obviously blow-up job at the finale. It is laughable at times and this is not deliberate, recaling Freddy's extendable arms. Wes Craven's New Nightmare is a cunning twist on the genre and the Jazzy Jeff/Fresh Prince song 'A Nightmare on My Street' is also amusing.
The movie that made me wet my bed in the 80s, is still a massive hit in the 00s.
This film is a timeless classic, it will leave you wanting more, luckily there is another 7 movies in this series
Whatever you do....... don't fall asleep!
'One, Two, Freddy's coming for you' as the rhyme goes. Wes Craven excels himself once again in this terrifying horror movie about a child murderer called Freddy Kruger who begins to kill off the children of the parents who killed him. A brilliant movie for any horror lovers. Johnny Depp also looks damn fine in a tight crop top! Awesome!

There will never be a nuther horrer like this. It was so good in the 80s and is still so good now.England was born to play freddy. I don't think a horrer as well mad as this will ever age.

I havn't wached this film since its release in 1984, it was way ahead of its time, and none of the so-called slasher movies of today can mach it!
Donkey's year's old but still brilliant. You just don't know where he will pop up next !
As far as horror films go i didn't find it that scary but my brother nearly wet himself and as we watched it just before we went sleep.
As its quite an old film it was fun to see Depp when he was that young and still chubby cheeked.
Plenty of good death scenes with lots of blood and a very good ending with a slight twist. Watch the mother at the end its very funny.
In conclusion its a good film with bits to lighten the mood if you don't always get scared in these sorts of films
Everybody knows the name Freddy Krueger, but what for? Watching this film for the first time in over ten years, I have to admit in being slightly dissapointed. It was less a case of shivers and more a case of giggles at the incredibly bad acting from the entire cast (inc Johnny Depp!!) with the only exeption being Robert Englund who throws himself into the role of Freddy.
The film is obviously a horror classic, but as for the actual scares, it isn't a patch on the classic Halloween pictures. Rent it for nostalgia and fun, and i'm sure you'll enjoy it but don't expect to be terrified.
woo...i've waited so long to c this film...and it wasnt a let down...its was really good...bit of a bad ending but...but i spose i cant really judge how bad it is until i've seen the second film and all the rest lol....yeah it was griping and kinda freaky...i never realised how commical the freddy kruger character actually is..lol...yep...now i have to go out and buy his jumper! hehe...being old did not take anything away from this film as it could still apply today..ven though the standards arent the same it was still really good...i can c y ppl c this as a classic horror movie...
One of Wes Craven's masterpieces- a great horror, everything you would expect. Actually met Robert Englund 2weeks ago at a convention- a fantastic actor & plays Freddy spot on. Hope you all have 'sweet dreams' after watching this & remember Freddy lives!
