slasherrificBy Richard Kirk from Tamworth , 13 Nov 2007Classically cheesy and full of that dubious 80s charm, I wouldnt necessarily call this film scary per se, but perhaps it struck more terror into the hearts of the world back when it was released. Adhering to almost all of the cliches of the standard 1980s American high school flick, this film is worth a watch if that kind of schtick is your thing, but dont expect high cinema. Having said that, I think anyone going into a Nightmare on Elm St film expecting depth and substance is kidding themselves.
classic horror filmBy a customer from CHESTERFIELD DERBYSHIRE , 26 Jul 2007What can i say nightmare on elm street 2 is a classic horror, loved it.
If your looking for something to give you nightmares this is not it compared to todays horrors, but its a great film for its time and always good for a laugh.
Not as bad as you might thinkBy MrBenn (24 reviews) from Liverpool , 09 Dec 2006Many Freddy afficianados are very outspoken in their hatred of this movie; often it is regarded the worst of the lot. Indeed, I detested it the first time i saw it, already a massive fan of the original Nightmare On Elm Street (which, of course, remains the masterpiece of the series). But coming to it again many years later, I must say that 'Freddy's Revenge' is among the best of the series. No, it doesn't hold a torch to the first, and it's nowhere near as much fun as 'Dream Warriors,' but it does something that none of the other sequels until 'New Nightmare' managed; it does something truly different.
The fact that Freddy breaks his own rules - passing into the real world, through not just dreams but also a physical body - is one reason why many people hate this movie. Personally, I like that it breaks the rules. Freddy cannot be boxed in; that's what makes him so scary. Just when you think you've got him sussed out, he twists things around again. You can't contain him or control him; he's not just a killer, he's a force of nature. And in this movie, he's scarier than ever. The make up and lighting are perhaps the most effective of the entire series, and the pithy one-liners that played a large part in the downfall of the series are kept to a minimum here.
Yes, it has problems. The conclusion is too simplistic and way, WAY too sentimental; and that whole 'you are all my children now' scene is just a bit too silly... but never mind. 'Freddy's Revenge' may have its problems, and it may not be one you'll want to watch again and again, but it's infinitey more intelligent and inventive than 'Dream Master', 'Dream Child' and in particular the abominable 'Freddy's Dead.'
DisappointingBy a customer from Shropshire , 27 Nov 2006We found this sequel really disappointing and boring to watch.
I felt this film just wasn't near as good as the first original movie. It just didn't have the same creepy frightening atmosphere as the first film.
The lead character who played the college kid looked like a really camp sissy. Some parts were just too silly. It's such a shame that this movie wasn't as good as or better than the first, I'll just pretend this movie does not exist in the A Nightmare on Elm Street Series and hope this is the worst one out of the way. Hopefully the remaining films in the series are better than this one.
