Freddy Krueger gets another remake, but is it set to become a classic?

Another poor remake.By a customer from Stamford , 02 May 2010
[Highly rated reviewer]I actually feel sorry for the guy playing Freddy this time as he put alot of efort in, he does not look as good as the old Freddy but a decent acting effort. The actual film though is very poor compared to the original. Although there is not much you can change with the story it was not interesting at all like the first one which took a little time with development. There is none of that storytellling here, just a rush from one murder to the next. Freddy is in it from about the second scene. There is no build up. The effects are decent yes with some decent gore but other than Freddy the acting is awful, especially the parents of the children Freddy is after. You actually want all the characters dead unlike the original. If you have not seen the original rent it or wait for this on dvd, definately do not go to the cinema like i did.

Ignore people stuck in the past.By Yeti13 (6 reviews) , 13 May 2013
[Highly rated reviewer]I am a big fan of the original Nightmare films (not all of them there were some real stinkers in there) but I thought this was a really good remake. Freddy was more sinister and actually looked like a burn victim, unlike the caricature he had became in the Nightmare series. He also was not cracking out one liners before each kill, which was funny to a certain extent but took away from previous films attempts to be sinister. Lets face it at the end of the day Freddy was a kiddy fiddler, not really the guy you want to be rooting for as he slays teenagers that he used to molest. As is always the case with horror films, some people can't see past the original film and just think anything else is rubbish. Well I am old enough to have seen all the NIghtmare films in the cinema and of course this film is not original but only the first Nightmare film was! This movie isn't going to change your life but it is a good film and certainly worth a watch.
Cruel KruegerBy GREENSCOPE745 (2 reviews) , 12 May 2013Still flipping scary. I hope I don't dream about Freddy now. Have too say Robert Englund is the better original actor & that this Krueger look a bit dual.
Better than the ratings suggestBy a customer , 10 May 2013Never watched the original in full so saw this without any preconceptions or expectations. It is a very good classic-style horror movie, covering extreme insomnia and the associated descent into insanity, childhood trauma, teens vs. parents, revenge, mystery, a blossoming romance and the obligatory gory scenes. Overall this is an intelligent horror movie which is superior to many in this genre - those criticizing it are probably too attached to the original as the cast is great and the concept is intriguing. The only criticism I would have is that it goes into child abuse a little too deeply which is a bit uncomfortable.

1st One is always the bestBy Scott-JC (4 reviews) , 07 May 2013For a horror film it was not really scary and quite predictable but saying that most horror films now are predictable. I think the actor who played Freddy done a good job, not great. There is a storyline but as the storyline was so short they had to put some fillers in such as scene's that don't have any relevance to the storyline. Its a solid effort but what do people say 1st one is always the best.
Another poor remake?By seany666 (2 reviews) , 06 May 2013Ok so its not Robert Englund starring, sorry for that, its another guy with a mashed up face. All in all i think its a good remake, i have seen some reviewers on here slating the film probably just because they are die hard, original, Freddy fans. The fact is the effects are in a totally different world than the original and the story line is explained in more depth with a few new twists included. This is a pretty gory rendition so all the gore hounds will have a certain sense of satisfaction. Enjoy it and hope for a sequel.10/10
