  • Taut but predictable

    [Highly rated reviewer]

A good thriller, perhaps 20 minutes too long, but the outcome is pretty telescoped early on. Kevin Costner gives an understated but quietly menacing performance as the killer on the run with his captured hostage, played delightfully by TJ Lowther. Well directed by Clint, whose performance is subdued but effective.

was not as good as i thought it was when i watched it when i was a teenager, it has some not nice parts in it like attempted sexual child Meistersinger and attempted rape to the mum! but this is not from Kevin costner thou it his ,his parner. Clint eastwood take a more of a back seat of this film

There's something very simple about Eastwood's films. They certainly don't attempt to challenge you and are always well made. This is a prime example and although pleasant it really didn't do much or go anywhere.

I loved this film from start to finish, its hard for me to not to love a film with Kevin Costner in it, but i also know a good film when i see it.

This film made me cry, laugh and think, a few lessons were learnt and i don't think i will forget watching it.

i loved the way in which it was filmed, Clint Eastwood is a very good director, with this film in particular.

This is a must rent and a good all round watch, it has stood the test of time and is still just as brilliant now as it was when it was first released.

If your looking for something deep, with comedy, a good story, great characters and a good ending then this is the film to watch. Plus a cute little kid!

4/5 stars for this award winner!!

  • A fair cop, but who's the robber?

A superb performance from Kevin Costner and the young boy, less so from Clint Eastwood who sits back and lets Costner take charge, drawing us into his less-than perfect world.

Though sensitively directed, this could have been a five star film if Eastwood's character had had the usual commanding presence we're used to seeing from such a fine actor. He'd also have been more of a match for Costner's escapee if he'd reached conclusions by himself instead of having everything revealed to him by his criminologist partner.

As it was, he did little to convince us he'd ever had what it takes to become chief of police and spent much of the film lagging behind. Perhaps an act of chivalry from a director who didn't want to upstage his leading actor? If so, the film was all the poorer for the decision.

An unsatisfying ending where the young boy takes home the elixir, but Eastwood and his partner simply cop out.

An entertaining and thought provoking film that leaves you(oddly) sympathising with the villain whilst at the same time condemning him.
