Matthieu Kassovitz plays Albert, an undistinguished and not very bright young man, living in a French village during the time of the German occupation. Lacking the courage to join the Resistance, he still dreams of being a hero.

By a series of chance encounters and a talent for listening, he manages to fulfil even his wildest dreams without firing a shot.

This is a brilliant little film, capturing exactly the spirit of the time, and showing– given a little luck and a lot of cheek – how remarkably easy it can be to assume a new identity.

Jacques Audiard has come up with another fine film, and in Kassovitz, one of the most natural actors around, he has found the perfect match for the part of Albert. Two of France’s most beautiful and talented actresses,Sandrine Kiberlain and Anouk Grinsberg, play Albert’s first and second wives. An absorbing and amusing film.
