I have not seen the bbfc approved UK cut, which has 4 minutes 12 seconds cut out of it, this is going off the uncut version, which I can say without hyperbole is the worst film I've ever seen.

The first hour is deadly dull, with little happening beyond a simple version of the Alice in Wonderland (or The Matrix) 'going down the rabbit hole' plot line. It is not exciting and the acting is poor.

The final 40 minutes are basically one rape scene after another. There is no connection between you and the characters which basically renders the whole thing meaningless. Also the acting by one character is very over the top, making it ridiculous. At least some parts of it are played for laughs, which just boggles my mind.

I understand the makers of A Serbian Film have claimed it has a political message. Well unless you think 'in Serbia everyone gets raped' is a deep political message then you'll likely disagree. I think it likely the makers are claiming this because if they admitted it's a silly exploitation movie- which it is- no one would find the content acceptable.

I don't think it should be cut or banned, but that's only because the bbfc risk turning it into a The Evil Dead/The Exorcist/A Clockwork Orange style legend in the UK through their actions and this film in no way deserves that. I watched this film because it was the day my father died and I wanted something to indulge my bad mood- and it even failed at that- I wouldn't have touched it otherwise, and I would strongly advise you to avoid it. Can't stop you of course, but it's your funeral.

'A Serbian Film' is basically a film designed to shock. I watched this film when it first came out, I was actually only 14 or 15 at the time. It never really shocked or disturbed me, even at 14 or 15. The acting is fairly decent throughout the whole film, the character of Vukmir is one of my personal favourite villains of all time. He comes across as almost a fairy tale like villain. Much larger than life, evil and yet still quite amusing. The effects could have used a little more funding, as the baby and one of the bodies don't look all that real. But most of the effects were well done, and the lack of CGI made me so happy, as CGI tends to be done on the cheap and look quite tacky. The main reason I find this film so interesting is that it is a METAPHOR of the horror of Serbia, in the opinion of the Director. Just for everyone's information, I don't think this is a literal representation of Serbia, so, there probably aren't lots of babies being raped by fully grown men, or men raping their children, but more a metaphorical representation of the ruin that Serbia is in. If any of the reviewers here had actually bothered to research this film, before ripping it apart, they would know that the director had to make it as shocking as it is, to thoroughly get his point across.

Oh my god, dont watch this. The content is more disturbing than you could imagine. I wish i knew wha it was about before i rented it. So much for trying to be cultural bywatching foreign films. It's not for me or i would say the majority of people. Im not even going to explain the content. I thought i had a strong stomach, but this went too far

Although this is a very well made film, I found it very sick and disturbing. I still had twisted images in my head many days after watching it. Personally, I do wonder if a film such as this should exist at all and I do wonder what sort of people would enjoy such an experience as sitting through such disturbing images. I sat through the whole movie and kind of wished I hadn't.
