Some good sfx, but a poor transfer to DVDBy a customer from Birmingham, UK , 21 May 2006

[Highly rated reviewer]This film cost in the region of $80 million, and had a limited theatrical release in the US, but bombed at the box office. A pity, because if you consider it as a 'straight-to-DVD' film it is quite impressive as the budget allows some good CGI creatures. The film concerns an unscrupulous businessman who uses time-travel capability to send big game hunters back in time to hunt dinosaurs which were on the point of dying/being killed anyway, so history and causality are not effected. After an accident one hunter accidentally brings back a dead butterfly from the past, and then 'waves of time' start to change current reality. Mutated creatures and evolved dinosaurs start to take up residence, and somehow our heroes have to go back and stop the accident from happening. The film is based on a short story by Ray Bradbury but he distanced himself from the film. My main gripe with the DVD is that the film transfer is very dark, and in some scenes it is difficult to see what is going on!

An opportunity missed.By Sk1man (3 reviews) from Dursley , 24 Aug 2009When I heard about the concept of this film I had great hopes, especially with it's pedigree of Director and short story writer.
Unfortunately it was an opportunity missed. Plus some decidedly ropey special effects, the CGI sticks out like a sore thumb.
2 out of 5 for me.

Did they run out of money?By a customer from Manchester , 08 Jan 2009I rented this film mainly to see how bad it actually was.
It features a fairly strong cast and has a pretty sound premise as well however the result was an absolute disaster!
The script takes a great premise and turns it into a buy the numbers sci-fi action romp.
Stealing wholesale from the Jurassic Park series but only having about a 10th of its budget.
The effects are laughably bad. From the poor CGI cityscapes to the badly rendered dinosaurs, I'm frankly stunned they were able to get Ben Kingsley on board. I can only assume all the money went on fee's for him and Ed Burns with literally pence left to make the rest of the film.
A missed opportunity
FunBy a customer from Dereham , 14 Dec 2008Fun.......if nothing else. As long as you arn't expecting anything to serious, then this film is fun. Nothing less and certainly nothing more.
ignore the miserys!By krugergreebo (29 reviews) from Keighley , 18 Sep 2008
[Highly rated reviewer]i'm really glad i ignored all the miserable reviews for this film,i have read the story, you know,in a book, with pages, that you have to turn and it's great so i was really glad that they made it into a film then i saw the reviews! wow it was very close if i rented this or not.
well i'm glad i did the story is great and the special effects are surprisingly good, i really can't see what people have to complain about it was really good entertainment and i know it's a 12 cert but really the whole family could watch it because unusally in this day and age there was no swearing and only the back of a naked woman sat in a chair was seen,in fact i can't even remember seeing a kiss!.
rent it if you want to see just a really good film.
