The German perspective
By Leni (179 reviews) from London , 23 Jul 2009[Highly rated reviewer]
Not a trace of an American or Briton in this setting of Remarque's (All Quiet on the Western Front, The Black Obelisk) novel Zeit zu leben und Zeit zu sterben. Indeed, Remarque appears as a blacklisted professor. The story line is powerful and, for the time, unsentimental. There are nice directorial strokes. The quality of the acting is so-so - Keenan Wynn is very good as a Nazi officer laid up with gout. It's good to see it available on DVD, as it seemed to have disappeared.- Was this review helpful to you?

(3)When time runs out for love
By LaurenceScotford (48 reviews) from Hove, England , 04 Jun 2011A timeless and compelling story of how, even in the midst of war, we are driven to seek out the love and companionship of others. What really makes this film great is it the sense of time running out for the central characters. The inexorable advance of doom makes each fleeting experience more precious. Recommended if you are looking for an intelligent tragic romance to lose yourself in for a short while.- Was this review helpful to you?

a time to love a time to die
By Donhal (3 reviews) from Redditch , 18 Oct 2010This film is a typical 50's romance movie, not much action, corny story and sex depicted by a fade out or shot of the ceiling, pretty boring really. BUT it brought back some great memories for me, my only reason for watching it- Was this review helpful to you?
