This took me a little time to get into, I think fifteen or twenty minutes to get to grips with the humour. The opening scenes are quite dark and I was really not sure why my friend (who refused to tell me anything about it, but insisted I watch it - I agreed because I think John Hannah is brilliant) recommended it to me so insistantly.

The humour is about as slapstick as you can get without actually bringing out a literal slapstick, but some of it I found genuinely clever, and the unexpected gags made me laugh out loud. One such gag was when they were in hospital, I paused it to read the sign behind the character, because one of them had caught my eye and was funny. The bottom label read 'PAUSE BUTTON OCD UNIT,' which cracked me up. And the verbal gags, while not particularly funny per se do work quite well.

There's also a couple of genuinely moving scenes, where despite one of them still being incredibly silly, John Hannah shows off some stellar acting that made me tear up a little.

My mother was unimpressed but her sense of humour and mine only overlap slightly. All of my friends who enjoy things like Naked Gun and Police Squad, and Family Guy etc, all found this show very funny. It's not something I'd buy or insist all my friends watch, but I'm glad I took the time to check it out.

I'm a big fan of Charlie Brooker, he is a very funny angry guy and then he also writes brilliant satires such as Black Mirror and Dead Set. This however, was more of a silly spoof. It takes on every cliche from every tv cop drama ever and laughs at it. It's quite funny in places but after a while it does get a little too silly and the laughs slowly start to dry up which is a shame as I had high hopes for this one

  • Funny but rude.

Very funny but very rude. A clever spoof of virtually everything you've ever seen in cop show. More puns than you can throw a stick at but most of them work.

What a shocker! It really surprised me that actors such as John Hannah and Suranne Jones took this movie on. Indeed, I totally disregarded their acting talents when ejecting the disc after the first 10 minutes. I must take some of the blame as I anticipated a film on the lines of that spendid TV series 'Scott and Baily' seeing that Suranne Jones seemed to be taking on a similar role ... this wasn't to be however, as we got what I can only describe as a spoof on a police drama ... and not a particularly good one at that. This might be another failing of mine as I'm not into spoof movies. Either you have a story or you don't ... not a conglomeration of silly incidents. I first got an inclination that I was on the wrong track when witnessing a series inappropriate gags and events that, as far as I could see, had no bearing on the plot. Sorry, 10 minutes was enough airing time for this household! Needless to say I will not be recommending 'A Touch of Cloth'. You will note that I've rated this movie with ½ star rating ... and, believe me, I think that's being over generous!!

I had read some of the most scathing reviews and was apprehensive, but I really enjoyed this. I have a silly slightly surreal sense of humour and watched this primarily because it was a spoof and not because I expected amazing acting or anything. In that sense it very very very good indeed. Charlie Brooker is excellent at small cleverly observed details and this is stuffed with these. Keep laughing remembering bits, highly recommended!

  • Brilliant silliness

Really enjoyed the silliness theres so much if it, not just in the dialogue but visual stuff in the background, I had to keep rewinding so I didnt miss it. As others have said its in the same vein as Police Squad which is one of the best ever comedies. Great fun and wouldn't hesitate to rent the next series.
