This is as brilliant now as it was when it was made all those years ago. The special features include a reasonably long interview with the author of the book (Labour MP Chris Mullins), in which he notes how several of the things predicted in it have come true, though the vision of a Labour government is very different from the one we ended up getting. Whether you saw it the first time round or not, this is essential viewing for anyone with the slightest appreciation for classic British drama.

  • SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE

Politics is and always has been A DIRTY GAME and no doubt will continue to be as seen in recent years. Chris Mullin's expose certainly affected his career at Westminster, nevertheless he had the courage to put into words the truth of how the 'establishment' deal with those who are honest and the involvement the USA has always had in British politics. Excellent film which shold be mandatory in all places of learning. Pity the soundtrack is poor and sub-titles would be a great help

I remember when this first came out on Channel 4, what seems like 1,000,000 years ago. I meant to watch it then, but missed the lot. However, it was worth the wait.

The performances are very strong throughout. Shows a lot of the darker dealings of those in the establishment with vested interests in the governance of our society, without embracing the lugubrious twilight violence of, say, the House of Cards trilogy.

    Thoroughly recommended.

One of the great British TV dramas of the 1980s, casting a cynical eye over the establishment as encountered by the unlikely Socialist PM Harry Perkins. The unlilkely premise isn't really the thing; the real meat lies in the superb performances from Alan MacNaughton, Philip Madoc and the great, still much missed Ray McAnally who is so charismatic that if he really stood for office, he'd by in Number 10 within a week. His final confrontation with the forces of reaction is a marvellous dramatic moment.

The DVD is barely adequate but it does the job.

A real feelgood movie for all those aging socialists who still want Labour to work like this!

The late great Ray Macanally is very very good and the plot is worryingly believable. It has been a long time since I first saw this, and seeing it again was just a huge scary pleasure.
