Based on Nicholas Sparks's bestseller and featuring MTV pop singer Mandy Moore in her first leading movie role, this type of love story might have worked back in the seventies, but it's far too cloying and contrived to seduce today's down-to-earth teenagers. At least seasoned actors Peter Coyote and Daryl Hannah cope well in their atypical roles as a preacher and a single mother. However, Moore barely convinces as the ultra-demure daughter of a small-town Baptist minister who falls for rebellious Shane West while rehearsing a play he's been forced to appear in as a school punishment. Director Adam Shankman is apparently trying to reproduce an audience-friendly date movie in the vein of previous offering The Wedding Planner, but few will buy his patronising discussion of faith and morality or his mawkish approach to a tragic turn of events.

    A film you will remember

Another music star makes her transition from songstress to actress... however this is suprisingly good, once past the usual teen flick it gets to some real unexpected depths as Shane West (Get Over It) falls for young Mandy Moore (Princess Diaries) and trys to help her live out her dreams, this isn't quite romeo and juliet but it's still heart renching stuff that proves some of these kid's really can act! The film is innocent enough but the issues at hand are directed at a more adult audience... hankys at the ready!

    A walk to remember

This film was great from start to finish. A real chick flick, have the tissues at the ready! I was only slightly dissapointed with the ending.

Not the best film ever made

Not a bad movie (in the end), it started slowly and reminded me of Greece. However keep with it and it will be worth it, bit of a girlie movie but quite touching all the same.

    Amazing

i watched this movie 3 times while i had it and every time i loved it more than the last.

The story itself was very well written and emotional yet still had some humour to it. A definite feel good movie, although you may need the tissues out for it.

    Customer Review

This film is one of the most ridiculous cheesy creations I have ever watched. Coupled with a sad ending it simply couldn't get any worse. I can only assume all the other people who have rated it 5 stars are 12 years old. If you like american cheese-tastic rubbish you will love it.. If not, steer clear.

    Teen Chick Flick Shocker!!

I rented this, thinkin it would just be another chick flick but it was actually a pleasant surprise! Mandy Moore is actually more than jus the stereotypical teen bitch that she plays in the princess diaries! There was a lot crammed in to a short film but it made me cry at the end so...

    fantastic

i was expecting the usual teen movie crap but this really does the genre proud.

Although the boys change of heart and complete personally transformation are a bit rushed you actually get to really like the characters and the acting of shane west is superb.

You will cry, you might laugh, but you will definately remember it.

    Shockingly Awful

The characters completely lacked any depth and I struggled to feel any compassion or empathy towards them. Wanted to switch it off after 20 mins but thought I would give it a fair chance. Worst decision I have ever made, the film got slightly better towards the end but certainly not worth the time to watch it.

Clean the oven instead, the end result is far more rewarding. Up there with my all time worst films.

    Not worth remembering the walk!

A cheesy film with a very guessable story, this film could have worked with better acting and as for the singing, well the 1 star says it all! It only has 1 star because i cant choose 1/2

    Pitiful

This film is overdone and tacky. Although the character development is quite well done and at some points fairly original it is basically mechanical and contrived. A suitable movie for the tweenie market but that is basically all. Rent it for your 10 year old daughter's sleep-over but otherwise stay away.
